KEN KASTORFF
Hometown: Once upon a time, Fond du Lac, WI before moving here to Wesser in 1975.
On Staff Since: Company Founder
Years on the water: white water kayaking since 1971, fishing since a young boy.
Where did you begin paddling: In the Boy Scout Program in Wisconsin. You can find a photo of me canoeing in old Boy Scout Handbooks if you look hard enough!
When Not on the River: you can find me fly fishing
What about Ecuador caught your attention for fly fishing:It started out with the high elevation trout fishing. Having spent 11 years in southern Chile fishing, I felt pretty spoiled for fly fishing. But being out fly fishing on a lake or river with a snow-capped volcano in the back ground is addictive. The lure of peacock bass fishing in the amazonian headwaters of Ecuador was even more compelling. I have never experienced such "adventure" as heading east in a dug-out motorized canoe in search of fish that are definitely out of the prehistoric times!
Accomplishments to Reflect on: Earning Eagle Scout, contributing to the sport of kayaking though such accomplishments as coming up with the C-to-C Roll, having the good fortune to share the rivers of Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, Panama, Mexico, Argentina, the Grand Canyon and many other rivers of the USA with so many great people over the past 30 years. And hands-down, working with such an accomplished group of river professionals here at ERA.
Favorite Quote: "If you are working hard on the river, you are not paddling smart." Ken Kastorff.
