5th Annual Reno River Festival
May 9, 2008 Known for attracting top professional kayakers and amateur athletes from around the world, the Reno River Festival returns in 2008 to celebrate five years on the Truckee River. With a new vision and new ownership, the three-day event ventures beyond whitewater and boating competitions to showcase a new avenue of adventure. Buena Vista Paddle Fest
Paddle Fest: Colorado Kayak Supply is hosting a huge kickoff party to celebrate the start of the summer whitewater boating season. Join us for an action-packed weekend of fun and educational activities for paddlers of all ages and abilities. Kayakers from beginners to aspiring competitors can rub elbows with paddling manufacturers, top pro kayakers, and other industry pros during a weekend chock full of education, entertainment, gear shopping and camaraderie. A fundraising event to fight cancer, honor survivors, and to remember those who lost their battle. Come and support the Relay teams and "Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back." Relay begins at 6pm and will end the following morning at 7am. For more information contact Keniethea Hyatt. 828-488-3145.

Kids Super Saturday
This year, the site for the first Heritage Alive! Mountain Youth Talent Contest will be the Jackson County Recreation Center in Cullowhee. CSA will again partner with the Jackson County Parks Department to hold the contest during KID\'S SUPER SATURDAY on May 17, 2008. Amanda Dills Stewart of the "Fiddling Dills Sisters" will once again coordinate the contest. Along with cash prizes offered through CSA, the Jackson County Recreation Center will also provide the following prizes: All participants will receive day passes to the Sylva Pool. Best of Show Prizes will be: First Place: Individual Season Pass to the Sylva Pool (worth $80). Second Place: $25 Gift Certificate to Walmart. Entry forms will be available at the Jackson County Recreation Center, and the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, and online at www.spiritofappalachia.org.

Willimantic RiverFest 2008
Several paddling games will entertain the beginner to the advanced paddler. Also featured will be a flatwater / swiftwater family style paddle from the Eagleville Dam to Willimantic. Several booths will display an environmental theme with interactive activities. “Battle of the Bands” will provide live music adding to the entertainment.
