Sunday is election day here in Costa Rica.  On the slate this year is a bid for mayors (alcalde in Spanish).  And to help the citizens vote responsibly, the sale of all alcoholic beverages are prohibited from Saturday morning through Monday morning during any election.  There is no mistaking the seriousness of this law.  The shelves of rum are draped in black in the stores and all bottles are removed from the shelves in every bar and restaurant in the country.  It was a quiet weekend in Costa Rica.  But I bet folks get out and vote in order to hurry the weekend over with!
