Sixteen year old Haley Popp is no typical southern girl.  While her friends spent the Chattanooga summer shopping at Target and Forever 21, Haley was either throwing down at Hell Hole on the Ocoee River in her play boat or bombing down the Nantahala River with her new-found passion: wildwater boating.  In fact, it is wildwater boating that has much of her attention at the moment, especially after a trip to Switzerland to compete–and win, at Nationals.

She finished out the summer with some pretty impressive accomplishments:

  • 2009 National Champion for Junior Wildwater Kayaking
  • Appointed to the Junior and Senior National teams for Wildwater in 2009
  • Traveled with the junior team to compete in the Junior World Championships in Buochs, Switzerland

We lucked out and caught up with Haley and Her Dad (a former National Wildwater Champion himself) on terra firma, as we most likely never could have caught up with them on the river to have asked a few questions! Read more »
