Lava laced canyon walls
monkeys swinging through the trees
little ones gathering to watch you gear up
stunning jungle scenery
a week of awesome whitewater with good friends
All of the above are reasons a boater packs up their paddling gear and heads to winter paddling destinations like Costa Rica or Ecuador–Or both! Such was the case this past week when a group of our merriest of pranksters broke rank from their annual Costa Rica trip to explore Ecuador with us.
Departing home before the January snowstorm of snowstorms hit, our crew took Ecuador by their own storm: enjoying everything from the rivers to the culture to the camaraderie that goes without saying on a paddling trip!

The scenery off river is as interesting as on the river! Especially when staying at the monkey lodge!!
The Upper Mishaulli is the river that everyone wants in their backyard
Having a geologist on the trip helped us appreciate the beauty of the Quijos that much more--when attention was not focused on the rapids.
The continuous nature of the whitewater was a change for this group of boaters, who embraced it with gusto!
