For all the paddling addicts out there starting to fret about where to paddle now that it is November and we are not yet seeing much in the way of rain, the Nantahala River is your go-to! There is not a planned maintenance shut down until late February.  And while Duke Energy is not required to run scheduled releases for whitewater recreation until March, power generation means downstream flow, so check the Duke Energy website for releases. On the website, you will find a three day schedule, and you can count on it.  On weekends, you will almost always find folks either at the Freestyle Wave or working the slalom gates.

Make sure and stop by when you come through the Nantahala Gorge as we are open all winter! And we are happy to send out your friends in a raft or a ducky so that they can join you in a little winter river escape time.
