What's So Amazing About Ecuador

  • Ecuador is becoming known as the eco-tourism destination of Latin America.  Ecuador is home to an astounding array of wonders that include picturesque colonial towns, rich culture, Amazonia rainforest, the spectacular snow-capped volcanoes of the Andes and the Galapagos Islands.
  • The Oriente of Ecuador – your destination for the eco-tourism, has no winter or summer, merely a “wet season,” with weather patterns coming from both the Pacific and the Amazon.
  • It is easy to set up additional tours, directly out of Quito or from any point in your travels.
  • Wi-fi is nearly universal throughout the country. Cell phone coverage is universal, but you absolutely want to set up an international plan with your phone carrier (including for data) before you arrive.
  • Ecuador’s official language is Spanish, but Quichua, the lingua franca of the Inca Empire, is spoken by many of the indigenous people.  English is not as commonly spoken throughout Ecuador, so bring your Spanish dictionary.  Ecuadorians are grateful to travelers who try to speak Spanish.
  • The currency of Ecuador is the dollar.  Credit cards are accepted in large cities and ATMs are available throughout Ecuador. Small bills ($20 and less) are much easier to deal with for taxis and small businesses.
  • Do not be surprised that flights tend to arrive in Quito late at night. The international airport, located 30 minutes outside of Quito, is new and state-of-the-art.
  • Our base in the Oriente is the Rio Quijos EcoLodge. Once you settle in, you will not want to leave!
