Need More Outdoors to Help Get WNC Kids Outdoors

Endless River Adventures is proud to support Need More Outdoors – a nonprofit with a priority to get community kids outdoors, enjoying their own backyard.  The nonprofit is created in the spirit of Maria Noakes, a world-class whitewater kayaker who cared deeply about outdoor experiences for the youth of western North Carolina, and showed her support volunteering her time

The Mission of Need More Outdoors

The mission of Need More Outdoors is to strengthen Western North Carolina communities by empowering youth through outdoor adventures and education.   Need More Outdoors provides opportunities for underserved youth to participate in a range of activities on and around the waterways of Western North Carolina. We introduce participants to the outdoors, build ties between youth and the local community, empower youth through outdoor recreation and education, and reduce barriers to participation in outdoor activities. Our programs aim to improve health, build confidence and life skills, and inspire a lifelong connection to nature.  We applaud NMO’s mission statement because of our own commitment to the western North Carolina community, and youth in particular.

Partnerships

Endless River Adventures partnered with NMO on a number of initial programs during the summer of 2020, including a Girl’s Leadership program for ten girls from western North Carolina, scholarships to Summer Kids Kayak Camps and fund raising efforts through gear donations. We’ve already seen community partnership happening with NMO.  In 2020, NMO collborated with the Shannon Christy Fund and the LiveLikeMaria Fund to host the Girls Leadership Workshop and with the Mainspring Conservation Trust’s Youth Environmental Education program to host the EcoSplash Camps.
